Program Goals

Below are the goals designed to be in the best interest of all parties including: parents, teachers, students and the surrounding community. It takes a village to raise our children to be productive contributors to society.

1. The most obvious reason (and one that we see on a regular basis in the media) for starting a children’s fitness program is to get our kids active so we can help prevent health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and other diseases. We want to instill healthy habits and a love for sport and activity so they carry that with them throughout their lives.

2. We will promote healthy cognitive function. Recent studies suggest that there is a connection between exercise and better grades. Movement potentially increases brain function by increasing blood flow to the brain, which then improves concentration levels. It is widely known that healthy, physically active children are more likely to be academically motivated.FTM Kids

3. We will help improve social skills such as communication because it plays a large role and in the success of everyday life and the school environment. Sports and activities are a great venue for children to master skills, make friends, solve problems and increase self-confidence, just to name a few.

4. Students will be given a variety of written materials in various areas of fitness, nutrition and movement. They are designed to allow students to continually increase their knowledge in the above-mentioned areas.

Program Set-up

There are several options for implementing a fitness and movement program into your school. Components to take into consideration are:

  • Length of the program: We recommend 30 min. for K thru 3rd and 45 min. for 4th thru 6th.
  • Student to teacher ratio We recommend having one instructor for each class keeping the
ratio’s equivalent to what the standard set for public school.
  • Frequency We offer 1, 2 or 3 days per week with 2 days being optimal, based on our experience working with schools and their scheduling.

Fitness and Movement programs offered after school and/or during school hours

Intramurals programs are also offered during school and/or after school hours.

Management of Students

The organization and management of the students is very important for a successful program. Our on-site director has a step by-step plan that will promote activity and deter non-participation and disruptive behavior. This will be discussed with the principal prior to the start of the program to ensure the satisfaction of the school and teachers.

Equipment and FacilitiesFTM Kids

The equipment used for the classes will be either provided UofS or supplied by the school. UofS staff will use the school’s facilities and structure the time frame of availability with the principal.

Fund-raising

UofS will help you with ideas for fund-raising programs. We have partnerships with companies like Pepsi, Reebok, Gatorade, Baden Sports and local businesses and will initiate contacts with these groups on your behalf.
